In this unit we will learn the rise and spread of Islam was a major development in world history. In a very short time, the religion spread across large parts of Asia and Africa and into Europe.
West African Kingdoms
In this unit we will learn that West Africa is a region rich in natural resources, and its people have long been traders. They traded a wide variety of goods such as gold, ivory, salt, and food. We will learn about the the early people of West Africa and the vibrant trading empires of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai.
China
In this chapter we will learn about Chinese history from 500s to the 1600s. A series of dynasties ruled a large and unified empire. China made many advancements during this time such as paper money, porcelain, and gunpowder. They also made improvements in transportation and agriculture.
Japan
In this chapter we will learn that Japan reached a golden age of art and literature during the Heian Period. During the period, the Japanese produced beautiful art, poetry, and the world's first novel. Later, the country developed a military government run by generals called shoguns and warriors known as samurai.
